A Message From The Principal #6
Principal’s Welcome Week 2, Term 2, 2022
Recent Events - ANZAC Service – We conducted the annual ANZAC Day service over the public address system on Thursday last week. I am pleased to advise that students were very respectful and the service was well received.
Geelong Viqueque Friendship Schools – Fundraiser – Geelong High School hosted a Trivia night fundraiser last week which raised in the order of $10,000. As a school we support a partner school in East Timor called Mundo Perdido, which is a primary to year 9 school located in the mountainous region of Viqueque. Our school sponsors the employment of a librarian for the school and also contributes to sponsoring the training of local students as teachers.
Investiture Ceremony – We have recently been able to come together as a school community to recognise our student leaders. We do this by presenting them with a badge and taking a public leadership pledge to represent their peers to the best of their ability. This is an annual event in keeping with the school’s tradition and values of taking responsibility and service.
Today, Thursday 5th May, we have students out representing the school in athletics; groups of year 9 students attending a careers- Tertiary Futures program and students bushwalking in the Grampians.
It is lovely to be getting back to some sort of normality.
Coming Events
Week 3- NAPLAN and Interhouse cross-country
Week 4- year 7 camp
Week 5 – Year 7 – Community police presentation on risky behaviours
Alumni Reunion – Saturday 28th May 2022 – From 12.30pm to 3.00pm the school will be open for past students to come and see our rebuild. Parents and Friends will be running a sausage sizzle for the school.
Thank You
At Geelong High School we really appreciate the effort made and the support parents, and carers are providing their children/our students through these challenging times. In our view you are doing remarkably well. Please do not hesitate to reach out if there are issues that are troubling you.
I would also recommend that you access the resources on our school website on all manner of wellbeing issues from friendship issues, positive parenting and social media to covid fatigue and vaping.
