A Message From The Principal #17
Acting Principal’s Message Week 6 Term 4 2022
Dear students, parents, carers and staff,
With some of the rain behind us and the sun out recharging our batteries, staff and leadership teams remain focused on ensuring our students perform at their best for the remainder of the year. Speaking to many of our VCE students after their exams, though relieved and happy with their efforts, have noted feeling ready for their assessments. Throughout this term there are a few key items to be aware of below.
Annual Implementation Plan - end of year assessment
The AIP is a core part of school business. It documents a sharp and narrow focus on school improvement priorities and provides clarity and purpose for all members of the school community as they work towards the Goals set out in the School Strategic Plan (SSP). Currently teams are working through the self assessment and developing the next steps in our continual improvement as a school.
School Council
As announced at our recent graduation, we will have an opportunity for new members to join our School Council for 2023, this is mostly because of key parents and children graduating. I would like to encourage you all to consider the opportunity to join the School Council in 2023. The School Council meets approximately once a month for around an hour to discuss many aspects of school business and is always looking for opportunities to further improve our amazing school. Nominations for the new School Council won’t be called for until next year but if you are interested or would like any further information, please feel free to speak to the school office or any of the current School Council members.
Election Day
Our Parents and Friends team will be meeting Monday 14th November, 2022 to plan the Election Day Fundraiser at the GHS polling station. The State Election is on Saturday 26th November. 2022. This day represents another great opportunity for GHS to fundraise within the broader community. We will again hold a sausage sizzle and a cake stall. A call for volunteers will go out soon so any help would be greatly appreciated. Shifts are to be planned based on available community members and we hope to operate from 7:30 am until all the food is sold, or 3:30pm. To volunteer please respond via the following link or call the school https://forms.gle/sohMW3g2GFsrHFZ28
Mosquitoes
As announced via Compass Wednesday 9th November, 2022. Please be aware that due to the recent weather patterns of heavy rain, followed now by some warm days, a mosquito outbreak has developed in the Eastern Gardens surrounding the school precinct. Like many schools from the Barwon network to Hobsons Bay, we are experiencing large mosquito swarms in some areas of the school grounds. We are taking a cautious approach and treating those heavily affected areas, and will continue to monitor. However, it is important for parents of any students who may be at risk of reaction to mosquito bites to ensure their child comes to school adequately prepared. Please ensure your child has ready access to their supply of antihistamine, an up-to-date EpiPen, or their Ventolin inhaler should asthma be a possible reaction. Further information can be found via Mr David Board Compass message.

Christopher Pugh
