Year 7 and 8
Year 7 & 8 Teaching & Learning
Years 7 & 8 are the transition years into the secondary school during which the students will gain experience in a wide range of studies within each learning area. This will provide them with a sound basis for continuing their studies. During Year 7, students are supported to find their place in the school, with a small team of encouraging staff teaching them for their coupled core subjects of Science and Mathematics, English and Humanities, Health and Physical Education. This allows students to feel connected to their class, House and our school quickly and confidently.

Year 7 Camp and Excursions
In Term 2 all Year 7 students attend a three day camp at Alexandra Adventure Resort. This is a fabulous chance for students to develop new friendships and build a sense of connectedness with their peers. They fly on the giant swing, orienteering, challenge themselves on the high ropes course, rock climbing, watch movies, play beach games and best of all, have loads of fun.
It is our aim in Year 7 & 8 to provide as many opportunities, as practical to reinforce classroom learning through incursions and excursions. The students visit The Queen Victoria Market, compete in an Amazing Race at Deakin University, visit Melbourne Museum, learn the Haka and a hula and have a variety of guest speakers. Linking learning to ‘real life’ helps answer the age old question from students ‘Why do I have to learn this?’ This question is answered through our use of 'Learning Intentions' which make it explicit what students are learning and why. We expect these learning intentions to be visible in every class.
