School Council
School councils operate under a legislative framework within the Victorian government school system. They play a key role in:
• supporting the principal to provide the best possible educational outcomes for students
• school accountability and improvement processes, and
• the endorsement of key school planning, evaluation and reporting documents
The Geelong High School Council consists of elected members from each of the following groups:
- Parents (6)
- Department of Education and Training (DET) representatives (4)
- Student Representatives (2)
There are also up to four Community co-opted members (as required)
The President is elected from within the parent representatives.
The principal also sits on School Council.
Elections are held annually in March and terms are generally two years with half the council finishing their term (and possibly eligible for re-election) each year.
